It's the Pits

I am an easy going girl. I try not to let too much bother me. I keep most of my opinions to myself. I never force my beliefs on anyone else. HOWEVER, lately I've been finding it hard to bite my tongue.

My hubby & I recently adopted a pit bull who we named Madison or Maddy for short. She's now 6 months old and cute as hell. (I wish she was house broken already but that's another story.) She's the sweetest thing in the world. I've never owned a dog before but I know a lot of people have their opinions on pits. Either you've owned one and know how awesome they are or you hear the hype and hate them.

We were in Petsmart a few weeks ago when this woman came up to us & asked if she could pet Maddy. We said yes and Maddy immediately licked the woman....tail wagging...the whole bit. The woman told us how pretty and sweet Maddy is. Then she asked the dreaded question. "What kind of dog is she?" When she heard the response, "she's a pit bull" she couldn't get away fast enough. She literally backed up and ran out of the isle without saying a word.

Really lady? Really? You just gushed about my adorable pup for 10 minutes.

Several of my friends have pits & told me to get used to this sort of behavior. They've said, "just wait till you have kids...then you'll really see people's reactions." Great. As it is, my own mother won't come to my house nor will my sister-in-law allow my nieces to meet my "vicious" pit bull.

I'm going to try to get used to it...and I know I'm not going to change any one's mind...but maybe you should learn the facts before you make up your mind. I mean, come on, look at her little face!

10 Things you should know about pitbulls

  1. Yep, that the same reaction I used to get when I told people my son was biracial. I know your situation is about a dog, but imagine it happening to a person. I have had "friends" not hang out with me anymore once they found out I had been married to a black man. LOL Ignorance is everywhere and applies to everything. You just have to grin and bare it I guess.

    Much Love,
    Jodi
